An inmate who launched an unprovoked attack on a prison guard has been jailed for 27 months.
Samuel Gear, 32, admitted causing actual bodily harm to the officer, Douglas Mead, who suffered an eye injury, a torn shoulder muscle and bruising to his face and elbow.
The incident happened at HMP Leicester, Welford Road, on June 30 last year.
Leicester Crown Court was told that Gear was refusing to go back into his cell when asked by a female guard and Mr Mead came over to assist.
