A youth was arrested in possession of an imitation gun in Leicester city centre on Saturday night.
The youth was detained by officers taking part in an ongoing Leicestershire Police operation, supported by a sniffer dog, to detect people carrying weapons or drugs.
Sgt Liz Perry, of city centre police, was in charge of the initiative, which is called Operation Fall.
She said 23 people were stopped and searched after the sniffer dog detected traces of illegal drugs on them.
