The town centre of Ashby has been cordoned of after a "serious incident".
Market Street, the town's main thoroughfare – full of shops and bars – was closed to traffic by police on Sunday morning.
It follows a fight in the area that left a man in 'critical condition'.
Scene of crime officers were at the scene till Sunday lunchtime, and a tent was erected in the street.
