Just five out of 74 children travelling in vehicles stopped during a police check were in safely fitted car seats.
Police and Leicester City Council have now urged parents to learn how to correctly fit child car seats.
They have spoken out after an operation in the city which saw 38 cars, which were carrying 74 children, stopped and their child seats inspected.
