A 200-year-old oak tree in Bradgate Park has been cut down after it was ignited by carelessly discarded barbecue embers.
The Bradgate Park Trust, which manages the estate, posted photographs of the tree on social media today.
The photographs show staff dealing with the fire in the early hours of yesterday and then chopping the tree down to a stump.
