Double child killer Colin Pitchfork has tasted freedom for the first time in 30 years after he was allowed to take a day trip from prison.
Pitchfork, who raped and murdered Leicestershire schoolgirls Lynda Mann and Dawn Ashworth, was under close supervision throughout his temporary release.
Lynda's family, who fear Pitchfork remains a danger to the public, were told of the development this week.
It is the first time, to their knowledge, of him being allowed to leave custody.
