So far this year in Leicestershire eight lives have been lost to alleged knife crime.
The shocking statistic compares with seven knife fatalities in the county in the whole of 2016.
There appears to be no geographical trend with fatal and serious injury incidents recorded in rural and urban locations.
The majority of incidents have taken place during low-light hours, but a number of attacks have also occurred in the glare of full daylight.
