Intruders left a trail of destruction when they ransacked a 100-year-old city church in a search for cash.
St Philips, in Evington Road, Leicester, was targeted late last night or earlier today.
The burglars forced open a fire exit and made their way to the vestry and office, where they eventually found an envelope which contained several hundred pounds.
In the course of their search they forced open a locked door and broke a window.
